do88 proudly presents our intake system for the BMW M240i and M340i, designed for high power outputs!

Filtration, airflow and heat are key factors when developing a new intake system for a turbocharged engine.

Our do88 intake system has been developed to provide good filtration, improved airflow while maintaining low intake temperatures. One challenge with the B58's intake system is its location, it is right next to the manifold which quickly makes this position in the engine bay very hot.

High intake temperatures are not good for engine performance as the turbo needs to build up boost pressure with warm, less oxygen-rich air. Therefore, a fully closed intake system is the only way to ensure that the intake temperature is kept to a minimum. However, a fully closed system has a challenge as it has a restriction with only one air supply at the bottom of the airbox to draw fresh air from. During our development work, we noticed that the system needed to have a secondary air intake to eliminate this restriction. Our closed airbox has also been fitted with a heat shield to minimise radiant heat from the manifold. To ensure sufficient air volume around the air filter, we designed a large 7" air can that also leaves room for any strut struts.

As a replacement for the original intake hose, we designed a large carbon fiber tube with soft, beautiful shapes. The tube starts with a diameter of 105mm (4.1 inches) which then tapers seamlessly downwards to fit the turbo connection. A large, specially designed air filter is then mounted on our beautiful carbon fiber tube. The air filter has a tightly knitted cotton fabric for superior filtration. It is of course washable and reusable for optimal performance and long life.

The system is sold in several different designs. It is compatible with the original turbo inlet - but also together with do88's CNC-machined turbo inlet. Our turbo inlets are adapted for both the original and the Pure 800 hybrid turbo. They have a huge 89mm (3.5") hose connection to the inlet pipe which on the inside has a carefully calculated radius that significantly improves flow. Including our CNC machined do88 turbo inlet effectively removes all bottlenecks before the turbo and thus avoids turbo surge even at high power!

Tests conducted in our SuperFlow SF1020 flow bench clearly show the benefit of the optional turbo inlet. The intake system alone offers a significant 15% increase in airflow. But combined with our Turbo inlet (for original turbo), the total airflow increase is an amazing 23%! We highly recommend this option.

The original air box and intake hose are designed with elements that minimize turbo and intake noise. Especially the factory-fitted intake hose which has two silencers that ensure that turbo noise is removed. In contrast, our intake system comes without these noise-reducing elements, which results in a more audible turbo and intake noise.

The system is sold in three versions, depending on the turbo configuration:

  1. Without do88 Turbo inlet. The intake system is mounted with the original Turbo inlet.
  2. Including do88 Turbo inlet* designed for original turbo. NOTE read*.
  3. Including do88 Turbo inlet* designed for Pure 800 turbo. NOTE read*.

* The do88 Turbo inlet does not include a heating element for the crankcase ventilation hose which means the car's connector will be disconnected. We recommend doing a software adjustment to avoid the CEL (check engine light).
